Jorge,

I am unsure if you are still experiencing the rust stains and/or mildew but we can be of asstiance to you as well.  If you want to email me a small description of you issues and if you have photos that would be a plus.  I can get my chemical devision to look into the best solution for your needs and work toward correctling this issue.  www.hi-litesolutions.com

Hi Betsy

Glen said to me about your lot of experience in a problem with stains in markings in runway. We are in south of Mèxico with this problem, have you some idea of solution for cleaning and to prevent this phenomen?.

Thanks

Hi!

I just noticed you expressed interest in how we do marking in Eurpe. Well, I can't say about the whole Europe but I certainly know about Riga, Latvia as I manage [to some extent] both of aerodromes here.

Basically we use solvent based one-component paints w/o glass beads.

1) Why not water based? well, a good question, probably because of durability issueas, probably because the water content can provoke rust stains on Fe containing asphalt.

2) Why no glass beads? increased cost as we already do at least 2 marking campaigns pa; beads are more subject to wear than plain paint and when beads wear off they "take" paint with them; knowing that our winter season is 4-6 months and during that we do a lot of brushing/sweeping, glass beads wear off even faster; modern road paints are reflective enough to provide a good guidance in the dark

3) why not thermoplast? when it breaks, it becomes FOD; slippery when wet; if you have one approved by FAA, then there is non yet approved by EASA or ICAO.

That's it. Janis

Sightline conducted a seminar at TUL last week.  We were very impressed with their product.

Welcome,

My Airport Operations is a new site to help airport operators and maintainers with compliance and maintenance issues. I wanted a place where we can share ideas, training, concerns, problems, (questions and answers) and boast about our airports. This site is still growing and I welcome all input.

My email address is gbarentine@myairportoperations.com please feel free to contact me for anything.
