Vehicle Med Kits

It was tough to categorize this one so admittedly it may be in the wrong forum.  With that said, we're in the process of adding small medical kits to ALL of our fleet vehicles.  In the past we only carried them in our most frequently used vehicles.  The price of replenishing supplies in our currect kits is slightly more than simply buying all new kits so the question for airports who stock multiple med kits: ...

Striped rwy markings

Does anyone here do runway markings in stripes? Meaning not full paint cover of those enormous white rectangles but hatching it thus covering 50-70% of the area. I have heard it not only saves paint but also maintains better friction. Any comments? We want to use this technology for temporary markings on displaced threshold but CAA requires an aeronautical safety study (a risk assessment) to allow this.

Surplus Purple K Chemical

If anyone is looking for inexpensive, perfectly good Purple K chemical, I have over 50,000 lbs of surplus Purple K chemical in 50 lb pails. The chemical has been stored indoors and is in pristine condition. The containers show some wear and some of the metal has some surface rust but the chemical inside is in unopened plastic bags and is pristine. Call me at 775-351-9004 for pricing. Larry

Pavement Temperature Sensors

Good morning all, We are looking into possibly installing pavement temperature sensors in a near future runway project.   We have heard that the maintenance of the system can be time consuming and expensive.  Does anyone have experience with pavement temperature sensors and can offer their experiences? Thanks, Mike

Beacon Tower Paint Scheme

Does anyone recall the advisory circular that provides guidance on the color requirements of an airfield beacon tower. We are using the original angle iron framework with an updated version of the beacon. My question...are we required to paint the framework back to the original safety orange and white or can you use any contrasting color and or scheme? The orange and white suits me just fine, but i have had some opposition. Any guidance...

AWOS

Question for the list, has anyone installed a non-fed AWI AWOS in the last 18 months?  Specifically an AWOS 3000.  We are in construction on one now and are running into some issues with the manufacturer; would like to hear about other's experience.

Overnight Snow Ops

We are an airport with a staff of 5 that perform of snow removal operations and we staff the airport M-F 8-5. Now that we are getting toward the end of snow season we are looking back at things we could possibly improve on. One thing that we are looking at is how we deal with weather through the overnight hours. As of now we watch the latest forcast and monitor the conditions throughout the...

Snow Thrower

We have 2 Oshkosh brand throwers here. They currently have the poly plade at the bottom of the ribbon head. Has any one used anything else material wise or is this pretty standard. Poly holds up well for a short amount of time but quickly loses the nice edge. Just gathering food for thought.

Vehicle Mount Airfield Radio

We have the iCom IC-A110 airfield radio in our OPS vehicles and would like to connect it to the siren unit in the vehicle.  The siren unit has an input for an audio input for a radio.  This will allow us to hear the radio transmissions outside the vehicle.  If we plug something into the external speaker output of the radio, it disables the output from the built-in speaker. Does anyone have a similiar setup?...

Deregistered Aircraft Removal

Do any of you have any experience with removing "deregistered" aircraft from your airfield? We have a plane here that has been abandoned for over 10 years and we're trying to get rid of it now.  The story goes that an oil pipeline company sold a plane to a doctor who brought it here to have work done.  He died soon after, apparently prior to the registration being completed.  So the plane has essentially been...

Passenger loading ramps & use agreements.

Does anyone out there require their tenants to enter into a user agreement before operating an airport owned passenger loading ramp?  We curretly provide loading ramps for our tenants to use, but I beleive that we should require a hold harmless and some sort of use agreement to protect the airport in the event of any mishaps.

Changing RWY Alignment

I see several airports having to change the information on their RWYs to coincide with its new magnetic alignment.  How do you know when this needs to be done?  Does the FAA come to you and say "go repaint your numbers" or is that something that we, as airport operators, are responsible for figuring out? Just curious.  Thanks.

Pilot Controlled lights

Recently our pilot controlled lights have not been functioning properly. You can turn them on with the regular 3,5 or 7 clicks. They will stay on for their alloted 15 minutes and then will shut off. Now heres the fun part. They will turn themselves back on approximately 3-10 minutes later. And they will constantly cycle on and off throughout the night untill we turn them off PCL. Has anyone had any kind of issues...

Nuebert Aero Corp CFME friction tester

We have an aging KJ Law (Dynatest) CFME are looking into purchasing a tow behind CFME friction tester to lower our maintenance costs.  Our airport is in Texas and we will be using the unit to monitor rubber accumulation throughout the year and very rarely for winter operations.  Does anyone have the Nuebert Aero Corp friction tester and what do you think of the unit and the software?  Or does anyone have any other tow...

Bowmonk Procedures

Hi fellow Operations friends. We just purchased a Bowmonk decelerometer and I was wondering how other airports like the system, are there any tips or tricks we should know when setting up or operating? This is my first year of winter ops and was just introduced to the tapley as well. Thanks.

Sand/chem storage

Hello, We are designing a new sand/chemical storage building and I would like to see other designs to get a few more ideas. Ours will hold sand, 15,000 gals. of P.A. and a solid deicer along with sand trucks and deice truck. It will be heated as well. I am moost interested on the sand and solid deice design. I plan on getting solid in bulk not bags but that is not set in stone. Thanks...

Deicing cleanup...how do YOU do it?

Deicing season is getting closer and we're operating out of a new terminal/ramp.  We have so few outbound operations in the mornings that we do not require any sort of deicing pad.  That being said, we currently do all of our deicing at the gate where there are several storm water drains.  The consultant that just rewrote our Storm Water Polution Prevention Plan suggested that we purchase HAZMAT drain covers ($300-700 each by the way) to...

Surface Painted Hold Boxes

AC 150-5340-1K is very specific on the location and overall dimensions of the Boxes. However in our recent attempt to develop a Quick Reference Guide for Airfield Painting (Once finished I will share we designed it for ADG VI 747/800 but it can easily be tailored for who ever) we cant find verbiage that covers the stroke/width of the white painted numerals in the boxes. We know the height is 12' and can be reduced...
