Android

I have been wondering what is the best smart phone for what we do? Has any one used "apps" for inspections, issuing NOTAMS, email, Fax (does anyone fax?) I have finally convinced my director to upgrade or "dumb" phone to what I hope will be a smart upgrade.

So far I like the HTC EVO (keep in mind that the city uses Sprint as our carrier) I like the HTC phone with android cause I can use the phone as a "hot spot" that way I can use my netbook to access the internet and use a computer keyboard to issue NOTAMS and see Flight Aware. But I have not seen a lot of Apps useful for the Android system.

Please give me you experiences and links if possible to airport friendly apps or even mobile friendly websites. I do know they all have Angry Birds, but in our busy an angry bird isn't a good thing. HA HA

Thank you for you help,

Some of us are using our personal iPhone's for ArcGIS use, and of you can issue NOTAMs via the LM eNOTAM site.  Hopefully GCR will get us an app to work with iOS (hint!) so that we can log incidents on the field.

I've got a request in for tablet with our IT dept so maybe I'll have more answers soon. We want it for email/NOTAM/ASOCS use

This is an interesting post, I would love a phone which would assist in daily inspections... someone get to work on that app. Here in our ops department we use both android phones and iphones. We have not found an app useful for inspection, but there are apps that are good for communication TIKL turns your phone into a walkie- talkie and several apps used to track incoming flights/ delays. I wish you good luck on finding the best phone for your organization.

Glen,

You might consider contacting Dan Spaugy at TOL airport for information on a system they have in place as a result of the recent SMS implementation study. The system they have is called Draconi Airs and allows the recordation of inspection reports, work orders, NOTAMs, and safety hazard reporting on a tablet. It is customized to your airport and allows for quick data entry through an airport diagram overlay and pull down menus.
