We are in the process of incorporating NIMS into our Airport Emergency Plan.  Was just wondering if anyone has recently done this and looking for some guidance on where to start.

We're in the process of redoing our emergency preparedness approach, including the AEP and NIMS/ICS. For me, I did a lot of reading and training.

Reading Materials

Training

  • FEMA Emergency Management Institute - Independent Study Program
FEMA offers many online classes in ICS/NIMS; 100, 200, 700, & 800 are the main courses.

  • ICS-300 Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents
This is a 3-day classroom setting course. I attended it at a regional training center for free, you may have simliar offerings near you via fire, police, homeland security, etc. This is a certification course and helped me have discussions with our ARFF, Police, and other mutual aid partners on the same level.

  • AAAE's ICS for Commercial Aviation Workshop
I took this before I completed ICS-300; while not a certification course, Jeff Price really helped me get my head around ICS and NIMS; and put it into something I could understand coming from the Airport OPS world.
